Info Post
From the Courier-Mail:
TOWNSVILLE has been proposed as the ideal site for Queensland's first nuclear reactor, should Canberra decide to construct the power plants.
The controversial proposal came from two of north Queensland's leading physicists, who say the public's fear of nuclear power is misplaced and that coal-fired power stations are a greater threat to human health.

Peter Ridd and Thomas Stieglitz, from James Cook University, said they would be "very happy" to have a reactor built in their back yard.

"The main obstacle to nuclear power is that people do not realise how safe modern reactors are," Dr Ridd said. "I would much rather have a nuke over the back fence than a coal-fired power station."
