China's Nuclear Energy Future

In a piece outlining the reforms China is undertaking in its massive energy bureaucracy, the Asia Times looks at the scale of China's future nuclear energy plans:

In a bid to reduce dependence on highly polluting coal, China has placed tremendous efforts on harnessing nuclear energy. Today, nuclear power stations produce a mere 1.8% of China's electricity, but there is a huge growth potential for nuclear power. The government is now planning to build 27 mega-kilowatt reactors, with a total installed capacity of 3.6 million kilowatts, by 2020.
