Research activities will be divided into three main sections: evacuation techniques; separation and transmutation technology and transversal and socio-economic research. The European Commission announced today its plans to develop a public-private partnership that will bring together EU research work on radioactive waste under one umbrella. A joint undertaking is expected to be more cost-efficient than current nuclear waste research practices in Europe. The new framework should be in place at the end of the year:
