Here's a summary of what went on in the energy markets last week:

Electricity prices were mixed last week; however, the West experienced dramatic price increases (see pages 1 & 2). Gas prices at the Henry Hub rose $0.42 to $6.51/MMBtu (see page 4).

Nuclear capacity availability again averaged 99 percent last week. Palo Verde 2 shutdown briefly and on Wednesday, July 26th, the fleet reached its highest capacity availability at 99.8%.

According to EEI, in the week ended July 22nd, the U.S. utilities broke a record generation high of 95,259 GWh (see page 5).
