A Question for the "No Solutions" Gang

Today's Globe and Mail (subscription required) has a question for opponent's of Ontario's decision to pursue new nuclear build:

Plenty of critics staunchly oppose the Ontario government's nuclear strategy, which includes the building of two new reactors and the refurbishing of old ones. Among their ranks are economists who dislike the high costs and environmentalists who fear the dangers, worry about the waste and want governments to focus on conservation and the development of such eco-friendly but hugely inadequate electricity sources as wind and solar power. The question they all need to answer is: If not nuclear power, what then? Those who rail against nuclear would effectively leave Premier Dalton McGuinty with two untenable choices. Either his government must commit itself to coal-fired generation long into the future or it will face chronic electricity shortages.
