That's according to the nation's Public Enterprises Minister Alec Erwin, who made the prediction in a speech to the High Temperature Reactor Conference today in Johannesberg:
"As the South African economy grows... it will need more energy, and we will have to reduce our dependence on coal fired stations.

"The rate at which we achieve this... depends on an affordable and environmentally alternative base-load source of primary energy. We believe that nuclear energy is such a viable alternative as we move into the future."
