NEI Nuclear Notes, which appears to be a blog funded by the Nuclear Energy Institute...This might be a good time to remind folks that indeed, we are affiliated with the Nuclear Energy Institute -- something we've disclosed from our first post.
My then-boss, NEI Vice President Scott Peterson, asked me to start a blog for NEI to use as a testbed to explore how the industry could use blogging in its communications efforts. Despite the fact that I was asked to do this, blogging for NEI Nuclear Notes is a purely voluntary activity. So while many of my colleagues both here at NEI and in the industry have been kind enough to donate their time and energy, nobody here is required to blog. Furthermore, I'm not even on the Communications staff anymore, as the speech writing function here at NEI was moved into the Policy Development Department in October 2005.
As for John's guess that NEI Nuclear Notes is "funded" by NEI, I had to stifle a laugh. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the support we've gotten from senior management. But even though we've been in business for nearly 16 months, NEI hasn't spent one dime on this blog, and it never will. I promised that we could publish this blog at no incremental cost to NEI, and I meant it. Here's hoping more companies and individuals in the nuclear energy business follow our example.
UPDATE: John has a response. BTW -- I wasn't taking exception to anything John wrote, I just thought it represented an opportunity to explain who we are and what we're about. And we wish John well too.
