Russia's ham-handed attempt to punish the Ukraine (and send a strong message to Europe) may yet serve a useful purpose if Europeans begin seriously planning for their future energy needs. As Russia cannot be counted on as a trust-worthy energy partner, other options must be considered. Foremost on the list should be nuclear energy.
